Tsukishima Change From Inside

Research Exchange study at SIT, Japan
Advisor: Hideaki Shimura

February, 2019
Tsukishima may increase in number of vacant houses, because old buildings cannot be destroyed. The reason is that a residental area is made of special compartments. There are enough vacants, but there are surrounded to the other houses. These are used as a vacant land relucantly. Also, the terraced house (japanese “row house”) facing a road was destroyed and these changed to a parking lot. Now,it is redeveloped, but Tsukishima’s quality is getting worse. These problems about vacant houses are only in Tsukishima, and It is thought that these problems will increase. We will focus on three different areas and find a new way to keep the current Tsukishima’ s sense of belonging and the local charm of the district.
