(Colab) Community-engagement art project on urban walkability through manhole cover design
April, 2023 What’s the image of your ideal walkable city? Through the “My Canal, Our Dream City'' drawing workshops with local school students, the MueangYim group (lit: smiling city) redefines the notion of “walking as the art of landscape’ and how Bangkok could see the creative vibrancy of a walk down the street that put a smile on their face.
. The walkway is more than a space for passing by, and manhole cover could also contribute to fruitful spatial appropriation on the horizontal plane. A site revisit with students also contributes to creating the urban classroom, encouraging participatory planning for creative urban development while enhancing the sense of belonging in the area. . This design project hides 70+ smiles on the newly renovated BoBae canal walk, stretching over 4 kilometers along the waterside. Can you find them all?
